        Breakout

When a stock trades above or below a significant high or low price

A rise in a securitys price above a resistance level (commonly its previous high price) or drop below a level of support (commonly the former lowest price.) A breakout is taken to signify a continuing move in the same direction. Can be used by technical analysts as a buy or sell indicator.

A chart pattern used to indicate a rise in a stock"s price above its resistance level (such as its previous high price) or a drop below its support level (commonly the last lowest price).

The point at which a price breaks out either above or below a stable established range or trendline. Once the price breaks above its resistance or below its support, its likely to continue in the same direction. Also referred to as a Trendline Violation.
